It's called a city, but comparatively, it's not a city. It's got a healthy population, a CBD and a whole heap of stuff, but there are loads of suburbs, too. I live in a suburb, and I'm 10 minutes drive from the CBD. I work in the CBD, which houses the legal precinct, eg family court, local and district courts and the main police station.

We're known as 'country New South Wales', but that means nothing. There are no farms in the immediate area, but 40 minutes drive away there are.

We've got something like 7 or 8 beaches, and a massive lake.

Make any sense? Haha. I doubt it!

We had a Hooters in my city up until a few years back.

I think what happened is that it did great business for a year or so while every man in the city went through the door once (myself included I confess) but then what is the reason to go back?

The novelty has worn of, 1 pair of boobs or buttocks encased in lurid yellows and reds are the same as the next.

And people sure as hell aren't going to go back for the food.

So it died.

It's now a 'sports' bar which personally holds less interest than it being a hooters, but not much less.

I'm a good Irish-Catholic girl, meaning I treat catholicism somewhat the same as visiting my mothers for Sunday dinner, I don't really want to do the dishes afterwards, but it's nice and it makes my mom happy, so I do.

Cathocolicism is cultural and religious, Tommib is probably right about the nature of religion being a security blanket that is comforting to those who can believe, I think the rest of us either wish we could believe so that we could be comforted, or act arrogant enough to believe there is nothing we need to be comforted from.

On the cultural side of things I think if I were to choose a religion it would have to still be catholicism.... I mean at least it is self admittedly screwed up, I have yet to meet a priest who in frank conversation will not say that there are definately contradictions, and freedom of intrepreations, but take is as part of the eccleasitial purpose to sudiously ignore the same contradictions in sermon.... also it's the great amalgamator of all religions, in what other christian religion can you find do many old world religious traditions than the catholic religion which is a constant work in progress adapting to be able to assymiliate any new cultures... sure I'm being scarcastic, but I've never found a religion I can take seriously, which really does make me a great catholic.

Interesting, I'm not religious in any way or form, Catholicism is like any other religion to me, you break it down and it has all the traits of a security blanket. It's a comforter, able to fall back on when the chips are down or something in life cannot be given reasonable explanation. But with this I'm not being negative about it, the very opposite in fact. I would actually like to believe in something, a religion or whatever because of the reason outlined above. Instead, I have to look toward myself or other people for answers and some answers are a lot harder to find there than someone who can just reach for a bible.

Hope that's of some use for you, whatever the reason.

I love your last point, you have a wonderful way of thinking about things. Try not to get down, but I have to admit, sometimes it's nice to have a little cry and feel depressed, even if nothing is really bothering you. Listen to some sad songs, perhaps you could try 'No One But You (Ony The Good Die Young)' by Queen and you can have a little cry about how Freddy is dead? That's a personal favourite of mine, I'm never going to get over my disappointment of never getting to see Queen live, with Freddy.
